The Agrarian and Industrial Faculty was founded
in 1954. It was the founding faculty of the University of Ruse. In the years, it has had the following names: Faculty of Mechanisation and Electrification of Agriculture /FMEA/; Faculty of Mechanisation of Agriculture /FMA/and since
2006 - Agrarian and Industrial Faculty /AIF/. It is the only faculty in the country to train engineers for design, manufacturing, implementation, maintenance, repair and servicing of agricultural machinery. It comprises six departments: Agricultural Machinery; Repair, Reliability and Chemical Technologies; Theory of Mechanisms and Machines and Material Handling Equipment and Technologies; Heat, Hydraulic and Pneumatic equipment; Ecology and Conservation; Industrial Design.
In 1999 AIF was granted regular institutional accreditation by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency and the right to teach PhD students in five scientific fields, mechanical engineers, bachelors (4-year degree) and masters (1- or 1,5 year degree).
